Driver Improvement Program - DIP

NEW!For a limited time, the New Jersey Motor Vehicles Commission has temporarily approved National Safety Council Virtual Instructor-led Training as an alternative way to complete NJ Driver Improvement Program (DIP) in-person classes. Easily participate in a Virtual Training class from anywhere, using just about any device with video chat capabilities and internet connection.

The Driver Improvement Program is a 4-hour classroom course offered in lieu of a 30-day suspension for drivers who accumulate 12 to 14 points in more than two years. More detailed information about the program is included in the Scheduled Suspension Notice that you will receive in the mail from the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission. Up to three points will be removed from your driving record if you successfully complete the program. Failure to complete this course will result in a 30-day suspension of your driving privileges. To have your driving privileges restored, you MUST pay a $100 restoration fee.

Per the regulations, Attitudinal Dynamics of Driving (DDC-ADD) offered by the National Safety Council is an approved course for the DIP. In the four-hour virtual, instructor-led DDC-ADD course, drivers will learn how choices they make while driving could result in serious financial, legal, and personal costs as well as how their attitude impacts on-the-road decision making. A plan is developed for making long-term driving behavior changes.

If you checked #2 on your Scheduled Suspension Notice and returned it to the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission with the required $75 administrative fee, call (877) 441-9721 to register for the Driver Improvement Program Virtual Training class. The class fee is an additional $75, payable at the time of registration.

Probationary Driver Program - PDP

NEW! For a limited time, the New Jersey Motor Vehicles Commission has temporarily approved National Safety Council Virtual Instructor-led Training as an alternative way to complete NJ Probationary Driver Program (PDP) in-person classes. Easily participate in a Virtual Training class from anywhere, using just about any device with video chat capabilities and internet connection.

Drivers that are issued a driver license permit for the first time are probationary drivers and will have to serve a two-year probationary period. While in the probationary period, drivers who are convicted of two or more moving violations with a total of four or more points, will receive a Fee Due Notice from the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission requiring the driver to enroll in the Probationary Driver Program to correct improper or dangerous driving practices. Failure to complete this course will result in an indefinite suspension of your driving privileges. To have your driving privileges restored, you will be required to enroll in the Probationary Driver Program and also pay a $175 restoration fee to the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission.

Per the regulations, Alive at 25®, offered by the National Safety Council, is an approved course for the PDP. Alive at 25 is a highly interactive 4-hour classroom intervention program that zeroes in on drivers ages 16 to 25 — the group most likely to be involved in a fatal collision. Alive at 25 uses workbook exercises, group discussions, role-playing and short lectures to help keep young drivers safe on the road.

If you returned your Fee Due Notice with the required $75 administrative fee to the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission, call (877) 441-9721 to register for the Probationary Driver Program Virtual Training class. The class fee is an additional $75, payable at the time of registration.
